Money, drinks, people winning, what more could you ask for? You can win it big, or lose it big at casinos, but the idea that you will win the next round is still there. Lets talk about that.
I have gone to a casino recently and have had so much in doing so. The atmosphere is usually pleasant, and the activities there are too many to choose from and all look like fun. This place had many slot machines and tables that you could play Blackjack, Roulette or Poker at. Since I do not have a lot of money to spend on gambling, and I don't quite know how to play Roulette, I play Blackjack, as I am most familiar with it. I have kept track of my net win and lose and as of today I am slightly up, which is great.
Casinos, just like any other business, wants to make money, this is done in many ways. The games that are played, are always slightly in the casinos favour, so if you play long enough you will always lose money, even if it is just a little bit. Now if you lose R10 it isn't a big deal, but if you think about it, there are hundreds of people in the casino every day, so if all of them lose R10 or more, the casino will be taking a lot of money.
There are some things that casinos do, to try and get you to stay longer, and the longer you stay, the more you will bet, and the more you bet, the more you could lose. Some of the things that have been said, is that casinos pump oxygen into the air, but since there isn't many ways to prove it, it cannot be said for certain. If one casino does do it, it doesn't mean all of them do. The reason people say this, is that they feel more awake in the casino, and the more oxygen you breath in, the more alert you become.
Free stuff is always a nice thing to get, so why do you think some people go to casinos? They offer either free things or massively reduced prices, in the hope that some people will come and gamble, but even though you would be getting free things, you would most probably pay for it 3 times over with the money you lose. Another thing that is done, is making you almost win. Nothing is more frustrating than almost winning. This is used to make you think that you could win it big on the next turn, only if you play it right.
The Sounds and sights around you play a big part of keeping you there. If you see the sun set, or rise, you will tell yourself, "boy, I really should get home", so to stop this from happening, there isn't really any windows in the gambling area, and there is no clocks either, so you won't know what time it is.the sounds around you make you think that there are people winning, so you want to get on in with the action. There is also dimmed lights, to make the place feel a lot more cosy and comfortable, which helps prolong your stay.
All of these things put together, make a really good recipe for an addiction. There are people that prefer playing then winning. Most of these people, like smokers, know they have a problem, but won't quite because they enjoy it. Some people have been arrested for stealing money to go and gamble with. Unless you can afford to lose the money you are gambling with, my suggestion is, don't even bother, as it is more for the entertainment, then actually striking it big, as you have to be really lucky to strike it big.
